Bella Bees Honey Jarrah and Eucalyptus varieties are tested independently for bioactivity via a rating system called Total Activity or TA. The Total Activity measurement scale is similar to the UMF/MGO rating for Manuka honey. However, the TA ratings are a measure of both Peroxide Activity (PA) as well as Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA). UMF or MGO used to rate Manuka Honey refers to Methylglyoxal and is a measurement of the only NPA found in Manuka honey.
The higher the “Total Activity” (TA+), the higher the anti-microbial and antibacterial strength. The antibacterial activity of honey comes from natural enzymes and natural chemical compounds found in the honey. Any honey with a TA rating greater than 10+ will contain beneficial anti-microbial properties, and these properties are more effective as the TA level increases.
Traditionally honey has been used to heal small wounds and minor burns, soothe sore throats, prevent tooth decay and improve digestive issues, with more and more interest given to the healing properties of pure, raw, natural Western Australian honey, due to its increased medicinal potential.
Unfortunately, much of the commercial honey available in Western Australian today is processed and heat-treated, which effectively reduces the anti-microbial properties and benefits of the honey.
Bella Bees Honey is only coarse strained to remove any larger chunks of the honeycomb. Our honey is never heat-treated, and for this reason, retain much of its natural goodness, nutritional qualities, vitamins, minerals, trace pollen from the hive, propolis particles, fine comb particles, anti-microbial properties and antioxidants.
